Welding and brazing approvals: Pressure Equipment Directive 3.1.2
Essential safety requirements 3.1.2 of the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU requires that operating procedures and personnel must be approved by a competent third party for pressure equipment in categories II, III and IV.
As a Notified Body, we are accredited to carry out these welding and brazing approvals.
Harmonised Standards for welding and brazing
The Directive requires that examinations and tests must be performed as set out in the appropriate Harmonised Standards (or equivalent examinations and test).
These Harmonised Standards include:
- EN ISO 15614-1:2017
Specification and qualification of welding procedures for metallic materials. Welding procedure test. Arc and gas welding of steels and arc welding of nickel and nickel alloys - EN ISO 9606-1:2017
Qualification testing of welders. Fusion welding. Steels - EN 13134:2000
Brazing. Procedure approval. - EN ISO 13585:2012

Demonstrating quality with ISO 3834
EN ISO 3834 certification allows proper quality control of welding production processes. It’s for manufacturers performing fusion welding on metallic materials in workshops or on-site, who want to prove technical competence, improve quality, and meet safety standards. It covers the competence of welding personnel, technical reviews of projects, material inspection, welding and heat treatment procedures, and welding joints testing.
ISO 3834 is not mandatory as a standalone standard but it is often a requirement of European regulations and client contracts.
